he's a tough one, black is a "default" color (dominant gene) for a lot of dogs, so that makes it hard... and just his shape etc, he could be a totally mutted out super mutt... on the other hand, i do agree with esme on the BC, not sure on the GSD part though i wouldn't rule it out... does he have any breed type behaviors that might give a clue (ie does he herd or anything?) he's a handsome boy, whatever he is though... :)

He does have allot of energy and has a very close bond with our youngest daughter, one time he took off after a deer..a BIG NO NO, but did not go far, but when i went up in the woods to get him, he kept running in a fairly large circle around me, adn would not come to me..it was like he was playing a game..lol...which i did not find amusing..lol...then i gave up and sat down on a rock and the second i sat down he came running right to me?....dont know what that was all about..lol! when we go for walks he is always on the leash because we live in a community and its the rules, but every squirrel and bird he sees he wants BADLY..lol..he is VERY smart..at night when we are ready to go up to bed, we dont even have to say crate....all we have to do is stand up and he goes in by himself, same thing happens when we are about to go anywhere, he hears the words go get in the truck(to the kids) and in he goes to his crate..lol... my dad had a horse and he seemed very interested in the horse he wanted the horse like he does teh squirrels and birds...lol! the horse was kind of scared by him

also when he is playing with our other dog Aragon he snaps his jaws...you can actually hear the snap..i call him a Piranha...lol..he will snap the air very close to his neck or face..lol...he also never makes any noise when playing and rough housing....he never really barks much at all in fact....he does make a deep owwwowwwwwwnoise when he needs to go out.

I think he might be a 25%-GSD/25%-Lab/50%-BC... Something like that :)

lol, the "chase me game" is a real big hit with LOTS of dogs ;) and it's pretty normal for them to come up to you when you stop trying to catch them...
as far as his behavior, i don't think anything you listed here is too breed/type specific, but he sounds like a fun dog, and he is so handsome... you could try having a DNA test done on him to find out... :)
