I have just gotten a 8wk old Bloodhound puppy. His breeder swears that he has champion bloodlines and show potential, but when I did an AKC pedigree search on him, I did not find a single dog with a champion pedigree. This makes me wonder if he really does have potential for conformation shows. If you experienced breeders and handlers can see and tell me if he's got a good conformation that is suitable for the conformation show ring, I would be so grateful. I would really like to have a second or third opinion on him.

I would go to a local breeder, but where I live there are no local bloodhound breeders, clubs, or even dog shows. His breeder also claims that his parents have a tracking background, not sure if they really do or not. I am hoping to get him into a conformation show towards the end of April when he will be old enough to compete in the 4-6 month puppy class, IF he has a shot that is. I do not want to travel 3 states away(which is the closest one to me) just to find out he is not suitable for that kind of showing. If not, then I still plan on teaching him how to track and put him into tracking shows when he's older.

Some of his bloodlines are listed below. I have a 5 gen. pedigree on him, so I can go farther if anyone is interested.

------------------------------------------ SSS: Sir Beauregard Of Full Circle
----------------- SS: Diamond Durango Kidd Kody
------------------------------------------ SSD: Lady Savannah Of Full Circle
Sire: Butterbean III
------------------------------------------ SDS: Boxies Red Rider
----------------- SD: Venus II
------------------------------------------ SDD: Better Hands Jenny Gump

------------------------------------------ DSS: Pater Familias Bona Fide Bonehead
----------------- DS: Coonrod's Crisp Tracker Bonehead
------------------------------------------ DSD: Shilohs Tallulah Belle Davis
Dam: Cornbread IV
------------------------------------------ DSS: Judge Swillie Ruger Of Tomorrow
----------------- DD: Blue Light Annie
------------------------------------------ DDD: Tomorrow's Anne Faith Givens

Here are some links to the best photo's of him being stacked, that I could get. The images are very large in size, which is why I posted links instead of regular images so as not to stretch the board. This was his first time ever being stacked, and he just thought I was playing with him. There are also a few of him stretched out in his gait, one of them was while he was playing. Also have a pic of the only white patch he has. Would this be considered to big of a white spot for the breed? Would it be excepted in the show ring? Please ignore my pajama bottoms. It's the weekend, and I was just to lazy to change into regular pants.

He is very cute, but at 8 wks it's difficult to say any puppy will make it as a show dog especially if we don't have any info on his breeding. The pedigree is just a list of names for dogs we know nothing about. Does the breeder have a website, or do you have photos of his parents and relatives? How did you end up selecting the breeder you got him from? Keep in mind I show Afghans, so Bloodhounds are quite different from my preferences, but they do always end up show in the ring right before or right next to us. From the picutres you posted at this point I would say he has moderate show potential. He has some good points, some questionable areas, and some things that as a bloodhound shoul have no effect to his quality but in a show they may hold him back. I really like his head right now and his movement appears to be balanced. He needs more angulation in both front and rear, he's also doing something weird with his front assembly so it's difficult to tell exactly what's going on. The white spot shouldn't affect him at all. The silly things that may affect him in an all breed show are the lack of wrinkles/excessive skin (which some judges may prefer you just have to select judges that don't like overdone dogs) and his light coloring (it's not the red with black saddle color that you typically expect when you picture a bloodhound and the all-a rounders will likely hold that against him, thought breeder judges may appreciate his color more.)

Bloodhounds are not my breed, so I can't say much about him at 8 weeks. It takes someone with knowledge of the breed and how they mature (or just a lot of general conformation knowledge) to say much at that age.

Where in Florida are you? I know someone who shows conformation in Florida and there are big shows practically every weekend across the state. You shouldn't have to drive 3 states away. Maybe an hour or two. I usually search for shows on InfoDog.com
