In celebration of October (my favorite month), I've done a whole series of sculptures I call Bliss dogs, and just wanted to share them....my effort to capture the utter absorption in joy that we so value in our dogs. You just can't look at one of these and not smile...(seriously, I dare you).

You've probably said before-but what do you sculpt out of?

Thanks so much everyone! That little Westie was a request from a friend of a friend, and I think it turned out well. Sculpting keeps me sane, and obviously dogs are my favorite subject. I was doing life-sized head studies last spring, till I ran out of models. I sculpt with high-fire stoneware clay, which I can do only because I belong to a group studio. High fire clay is fired twice, once in an electric kiln and then again in a big gas kiln to something like 2600 degrees fahrenheit. It takes quite a while to get a piece done, what with the drying, glazing, and multiple firing. I've been selling a few here and there, the best part of which I get to chat with people about their dogs, and get new inspirations.

My parents do clay too-they have a kiln in the garage...but they are beginners and do not make anything like you do!! Great stuff..

question-do you do other species? Like if I sent you a picture of a special pet would you do them-obviously for a deposit?
