Hi, I just found a puncture wound on my dogs face below his right eye.

Dog is behaving normally - always happy go lucky, not too much bothers him.

He spends most of his time outside, in a yard with an invisible fence. Many dogs stop by to say hello to him - most all on walks with owners.

Dried blood on his fur. Hole is smaller than a pencil eraser. From prior threads, sounds like I should see a vet.

Question - It is Saturday night - can this wound wait until Monday when the vet opens? Do I need to find a vet who has hours on Sunday?

Thanks!!!

might get infected... if you wait a few days, your dog could start feeling lousy and develop a fever... or not. Best to clean it out well and start on antibiotics.

Are you confident it's a bite from another dog? If this is a raccoon or possum bite id definitely contact emergency services. If you think another dog got ahold of your dog I would personally keep a close eye on it and keep it cleaned, but this also depends on how deep the wound is. If you think it's deep enough for stitches I would go immediately.

Also if dogs regularly wander around, don't leave your dog outside unattended. Anything can get into your yard and harm your dog but your dog is trapped to the yard.

A picture would help!

IMO it can wait until Monday. You can use some saliene solution (the kind they use for contact lenses) and flush it out, or use warm water and Epsom salts. Pat dry and put some polysporin on it. Do this morning and night or whenever it gets dirty. Depending on how deep or wide it is you may not need a vet visit.

Thanks everyone for your insights / ideas.

I found a clinic open on Sunday's near my house (Tufts in Walpole, MA) - great service - super staff.

Dr. Paul thought the wound was from a stick impalement and not another animal (phew). Once staple and a some antibiotics.

I tried posting a pic, not sure how to post a picture that is on my laptop.

Thanks again.
