Hey everyone!


I am a dog mom to a 1 year old male goldendoodle. He has terrible leash behavior, he is 100 lbs and drags me down the sidewalk. He also jumps all over anyone he sees that is not myself or my husband. He is such a sweet dog, however the behavior is distasteful. I have tried telling guests to not pet him unless he has all 4 paws on the ground and to turn their back to him if he jumps. I have tried stopping anytime he pulls me on the leash. I need advice on how to train him, I should have nipped it in the bud sooner, but I am a nurse and have a weird schedule. Please help! <3

Try a halti harness, give him a run around at home first, & tire him a bit then go walking when he is calmer. Walk uphills so he can pull you up, then practise no pulling going down. Use voice commands. Maybe go on the flat & put roller blades on & go fast around letting him pull you, wear him out, then practise walking. I hold the leash in both hands & pull gently & slowly back on the lead half way down when necessary. Its easier then one hand technique. Keep him on a shorter lead for walking so he's looking up at you rather than way out in front. Practise time is easier at first with less distractions like cats ducks dogs etc so start in an area without those if you can & then build up to those challenges a bit at a time. My dog also will want to go faster to get away from traffic, so traffics also one to avoid until later. My dog loves forest walks & relaxes sniffs, she was so good today, had the lead slack & she tottled along happily. For your hand, choose a lead with a padded handle, its much easier on the hands. Also padded grip gloves are great to protect your hands from getting sore & warm in the cold. A halti goes across the chest & shoulders & attaches to a part that goes across ways around the chest & back. They are great for no pulling.
