I have two dogs. very small mixed breeds. One (fatbboy) Came out of a Chihuahua. I saw this myself and later helped bottle feed him as his mother developed eclampsia when he was a week old. He doesn't look anything like a Chihuahua The other (Pepper) is a little black dog about Chihuahua size but unknown breed, just a little puppy my X's daughter brought home one day.
Both dogs are around years old now.

I went on vacation for two weeks. The dogs are family members who live in the house. I left the AC on and had my daughter check on them twice a day and let them out into the backyard which is well fenced.

My X got word of my vacation and called animal control and made up a big story about me not coming back and got them to take my dogs.

By the time I got them back (At no charge since they admitted they were not in danger and they shouldn't have enter my house) they had been in the pound 6 days. I got them back yesterday (8/22/2016) and my poor babies have lost about 30% of there body weight, Fatboy is the one I am worried about. He has a hard sore on the side of his mouth, Very bad breath, the white part of his eyes is blood red and he can't hardly even bark he has bight marks all over his feet he was extremely dehydrated. I think they might of pepper sprayed him. And I am concerned about diseases that he may have gotten. And am thinking about talking to a lawyer.

I'm so sorry that they went through that! It must have been so stressful and scary for then.

Have you taken them to the vet?

Perhaps talking to an attorney is a good idea, but the priority has to be finding out what is wrong with your dog, and getting the medical support needed to make him well. Once that is under control, save all the paper work etc, then talk to an attorney, but get your dog the Veterinary care he needs first.

Yeah. Some women (who give us all a bad name, I might add) lash out that way for spite with their own children after a divorce, so this is not very surprising, unfortunately.

I think you should do two things in this situation.

First, get a written affidavit from animal control that the dogs were in good condition and being cared for during your absence.

Second, since it does sound like the dogs may have been mishandled or pepper sprayed by AC, take them to the Vet and send her a nice, cushy bill to be paid with the ultimatum she either does that or gets slapped with a lawsuit for your expenses, pain & suffering, and the health issues being impounded caused the dogs. The affidavit from AC will be your proof in court.

And in all seriousness, after such a stressful event, you might want to look into getting the dogs on a homeopathic adrenal support formula, because humans or animals who have gone through traumatic events can get "stuck" in a constant state of fight or flight/anxiety from the stress. I've used NatraBio Adrenal support for dogs that had been attacked by other dogs, and could not seem to relax for days/weeks/months afterwards.
