Our 5.5 month old puppy,Andi, is dog-door trained... BUT ONLY on the condition one of us goes outside WITH her!We have only had her for 4 weeks and she came to us untrained. We started out by working on the 'Let's go potty!' prompt (and really want to keep that command,as it's the one we use when we are in a hurry and want to ensure both dogs pee/poop on command.)She picked up that command prompt right away. With all our other puppies, once they understood that 'outside is where I go potty' they would go- whether we suggested it or not,and whether we go out with them or not.But with Andi-unless prompted with that phrase AND we go out with her,she will often quietly go potty somewhere in the house. When we do say 'let's go potty',she will bound out excitedly through the dog door, but if we don't follow her within 10 seconds or so,she will walk back inside. She does go outside on her own accord with and without our other dog (to whom she is very bonded with) for brief periods of time, whether it's for play or just to hang out on the back patio. But we have yet to see her go potty on her own.We don't mind going out with her,and we understand it's much more fun in a puppy's eyes to have company and to be praised,BUT there will be times when neither of us will be here, and that's what the dog door is there for! I'm hoping it's just a repetition issue and right now,and we are taking her out every 1-2 hours and praising her when she goes potty, which we have done before. We will be gone for a few hours in a few days,so I'm hoping all this repetition that we thought was ingrained in her, will pay off! Has anyone had this issue and what did you do to work past it? Thanks!

Go with her and make sure she goes. She has only had 4 weeks of potty training that is not enough to think she is trained even though she is 5 month old. You should still be reinforcing the good job she does by going out side with praise and treats for a job well done.
