our mastiff mix stella has always been aggressive to dogs especially little dogs and has never been trusted with certain dogs offlead. we started taking her with our labrador to the park early morning and met a few other dogs there and she was bit wary but one only pup so was ok.
she can now be offlead with the small group and even accepts other dogs that come on park while she is playing.
has always has a hatred of greyhounds and tries to choke herslef if one comes near however she was offlead and we didnt see a greyhound come into field until he was next to stella so started panicking. but one little sniff and then ignored him!
has also been playing with small terriers and breeds she normally trys to attack on sight and can walk offlead for our 2hr walk.
she has been running around with others and playing with footballs which she has never done before.she normally just sleeps all the time or stands next to us

do you think this is just a phase or getting like a 'second puppyhood' like people do or could she finally be well behaved and sociable. it is lovely to be able to take her to run on park without panicking at every little movement incase a dog runs up to her - as she is the bigger dog we have been told its her fault if anything happpens even if she didnt start it.

we havent changed anything except start taking her to main park so not sure why the sudden change of behaviour as she has been around other dogs a lot before and had the chance to run and play but she hasnt ever wanted to

Our houla Addison was very "barking in the face of other dogs" but after she went to the park with Chloe @10 times she has learned to play "nicely" with others. Of course it helped that one dog did flip her head over heels one time....no more face barking after that!

Need heaps more info including those question already asked, I would like to know by aggressive do you mean she has attacked a dog in the past or if not please explain further?
How much prior socialisation has she had before the recent dog park visits & what was it & how did it go?

she is 8 in january and we are unsure if she is spayed or not. as she has a seizure after any medication the vet doesnot want to risk doing an operation to see if she is or not. she has been a bit clingy and constantly washing herself lately and a big behaviour change

by aggressive we mean she barks and snaps at dogs on lead and has gone for other dogs that she doesnot know.
we dont know much about her as she is a rescue except she has come from a family home with 7kids.we were also told she is friendly with all dogs including small ones but has been nasty with small dogs since the first day.

have had her nearly 2years.is fine once she has met a dog 4 or 5 times and the other dog is quiet but recently on park can meet a dog once and be fine when she is off lead, onlead she is still very reactive. also reacts badly to loud or sudden noises including other dogs barking.

she is a pub dog so has been around lots of dogs while we work but has to be put onlead if certain dogs come in, she doesnt go into bar area as much anymore as its tourist season. the man who looks after her on holiday never has her onlead and has never had a problem with her when walking.

our morning walking group consists of her, a labrador, a collie mix which took her a few visits to get used to, and an elkhound puppy who adores her.there is always a mix of other dogs appear towards end of walk including a large racing greyhound-she normally tries attacks on sight but has been nice this past week to him.

still have issues if another dogs runs up and snaps at her first or appears suddenly next to her. great with puppies and lets them jump on her and chew her ears adn legs and her mouth flaps.

@pkelley - would love to see a dog flip her lol! shes very solid and large

Some dogs will tolerate or even enjoy many other dogs, but react badly to rambunctious or pushy dogs or dogs who "get in their face" quickly. She may just be a bit of a choosy dog.

Also, often being on a leash makes a dog more tense and reactive. That's not to say you should not leash her, but rather that when she is on a leash (for all sorts of safety reasons it is good), you may want to prevent having her meet other dogs.

Also, it does sound like she may be in heat, so be careful she does not get bred! ;)

she is quite fussy.but seems to be fine with all except the snappiest dogs in the past week. its just the sudden behaviour change we were bit confused about.
she has never tolerated stranger dogs near her on the first meeting but has been offlead at park this week playing with lots of dogs she has never met.
every male we know that shes in contact with has been neutered except for a few puppies
she will tolerate puppies climbing all over her and biting but not older dogs and easily flips dogs on their backs when shes had enough.
she used to snap at them as soon as a dog came near and was muzzled a lot in the past.she is a very big dog so could injure a smaller dog even if didnt meant it as snaps as a warning sometimes.

has to be on a lead at certain times as is the law when in a public area and when out on a walk sometimes has to be put onlead if a dog she doesnt like comes near.due to her size a lot of people feel threatened if they see her coming and we are often asked to put her on a lead to get past people.

The change may be due to being off lead. On a leash dogs are very protective of the person on the other end of the leash. They also pick up the vibes on the other end of that leash. If the owner is scared or nervous. Maybe since you have relaxed the dog has too. Could be that simple.
