I have 2 dogs one named Luna who is 42 lbs and my other dog Loki who is 20 lbs. I just recently brought Luna home. The two did great with their meet and greet together but since they have been together in the home Loki has struggled with getting along with Luna. Loki often confuses her trying to play as her being violent. Loki constantly is the aggressor while Luna is trying to play. I feel as if I have done everything right to get the two to acclimate properly but my attempts I suppose have failed. They do get along time to time but Loki often throws all that out the window. Is there anything I can truly do to get them to coexist with no issues?

Is there a chance Luna is being pushy and/or rude with this? And with that big of a difference in size, and maybe play styles, Loki has reason to worry. Can you describe and explain what you mean when you say he, "throws that out the window?"

In the meantime, I'd give Loki some quiet time completely separated from Luna and maybe look into finding compatible dog-owner pairs that you and Luna can meet with.
Luna and Loki often do play, mainly its when they chase each other. I know its play due to that being one of Lokis favorite pastime as he has been doing that since we got him (over a year ago). Luna sometimes gets overly excited and I assume Loki gets intimidated and gets a little aggressive which my girlfriend told me that Loki is just trying to tell Luna that he doesn’t like what she is doing. Unfortunately, Loki will get overly aggressive with her if she persists. Other times he thinks that she is attacking me when she is excited to see me and jumps on me. That’s what I mean when I say “he throws it out the window”. Typing this I realize Loki’s favorite type of play is fetch and chasing, Luna doesn’t care what it is she loves playing. To ensure Luna gets to play I take her to no leash dog parks and play fetch with her or play with the other dogs.
