Long story short. Barely 9 year old Doberman … starts acting weird and like he’s in pain, tumor pops up on side of his head two days ago.
Take him to ER. Did an X-ray to see more of it but nothing back yet definite.

We love our dog but he’s in pain and nothing is helping abs the vets aren’t responding fast enough. Anyone with experience ever been through something like this? All cognitive functions are great with him… its Just pain.

My biggest fear is that it’s an abscess tooth or something fixable and the tumor is just coincidental. But the docs can’t say that the pain isn’t that without a $3,000 MRI.

advice?

It might not be a tumor. Calm down and wait for the vet to make a diagnosis. In the meanwhile you might want to ask the vet about pain killers for the short term.

It's also not unreasonable to get a second opinion if the vet is telling you that you need to spend another $3000 for a diagnosis. Maybe another vet can tell you a bit more.

So… update on this. We did X-rays and they said it’s not a tumor. It’s something else. We put him on prednisone and the swelling went down while he was on it. When he went off of it, it came back.

anyone ever had their dog have something like this? He is in pain and we are trying to figure this out …

What I'm trying to understand here is why YOU are trying to diagnose this. Isn't that the vet's job?

I fully appreciate that you want to understand what is happening. What is the vet telling you? What are you discussing with them?

What discussions have you had with your vet about this?
Maybe it is time to see another vet, or even a specialist about this. If you don't get the answers you need in one place it is always a good idea to try a different expert.
