Our amazing Cockapoo Frankie has started to wake up between 4:30 and 5am every morning and it's obviously a nightmare.

She sleeps downstairs and there is a door that encloses the stairs up to our bedroom. Between 4:30 and 5 she starts scratching on the door and doesn't stop. We come down and put her in the shed, as it's the only place where we can't hear her at this time. It's not a longterm solution for her to sleep in a shed as it's not warm enough for her to be in all night.

I've tried giving her significantly more exercise than she normally gets, putting on relaxing music for her to sleep to, training her extensively before bed time to try and tire her mind out. None of it works. I got a small crate that she managed to break the first time she was in it and she absolutely hates it.

She doesn't need to go to the toilet or eat, it's just as if she's bored and awake and wants us to come and play with us.

BUT IT'S DRIVING US MENTAL

Any help or advice would be SO appreciated.

Well first off did you actually crate train her or did you just put her in the crate at that was that? With crate training you actually have to make it a place they want to be rather than making into a place they hate being. Playing crate games, giving her yummy treats and rewarding her for sleeping and settling in the crate will help with positive association.

Sticking her in the shed isn't helping but you know that, she's still probably barking and getting worked up cause she's in a strange dark place. Maybe if she wakes up around that time set an alarm, get up and give her a pre made stuffed Kong to keep her occupied for a while until you get up.
