Hi,

My dog is a 3.5 yro female Newfie mix.
She was losing weight slowly over time and the vet could not figure it out with all the usual testing.
I managed to stop the weight loss and add a couple pounds.
So she's hovering around 73.5 pounds right now.
The vet says she should be ideally around 90 ish.
I recently transitioned her onto a raw beef diet.
It's a respected frozen brand with some veggies/fruits in it.
Anyway, I'm trying to figure out how much I should feed her.
On the one hand, I'm trying to put weight on a dog that has trouble with that.
On the other, people tell me not to overload her system.
Some say 2 big meals a day, others several small ones if I can swing it.
I think I'm leaning towards 2-3 meals a day.
But how much?

Thanks

Go with 3 meals for the moment, 4 if you can manage it.

For a home-done prey model raw diet a 90lb dog would be fed an average of 2.25lbs a day, though it would vary for the individual dog.

For a pre-made meal, what does the company recommend for a dog her current weight and a dog her ideal weight? Which brand of food is it?

Assuming your dog is allergy free, Karo corn syrup can be added to put on weight quickly, and for picky eaters, dogs seem to like the taste. Again, I wouldn't do it if your dog shows signs of allergies, and I wouldn't add it long term either, just until she puts on the proper amount of weight.

Ok so it's a Canadian company called MDF (Mountain Dog Food)
They suggest 2-3% of their "optimum" weight per day.
So let's say optimum is around 90 pounds.
So she should be having around 2.5 pounds of the product per day.
The packets are 1 pound each - so for now I'm doing 1 packet for breakfast and 1 packet for dinner.
Do you suggest maybe an extra half a packet at lunch?

Interesting suggestion.
I will look into it.
She is not picky and shows no signs of allergies at all.
What do you think about the satin balls recipes online?
Should I try adding one of those at lunchtime for example?

I'd see how she does on 2.5 to even 3lbs of food before you start adding extras. The downside of the add-ins is that gaining weight to quickly can be bad for the dog. You're honestly better off seeing how she does on just her food.

I would stay away from sugar in the food to add calories. Add calories with things that are healthy like eggs or cheese peanut butter dog cookies.
