Hi all,

Out of nowhere in the past week, my puppy has started tearing up the carpet. She's done it while I'm home on two of the three occasions. Two of the places I was able to do a patch job, and the other no so much. Other than this behavior, which she doesn't do all the time, she's behaving normally.

Any idea on how to stop her, why she's started doing it, anything? It's giving me anxiety.

She discovered that fun a little later than the puppies I've known.
Why she started doing it? I think she is misbehaving because she is becoming a teenager.
How to stop it? Have you trained "Leave It" with her? When she leaves it on command I'd give her a treat and re-direct her to a chew toy, and lots of praise for chewing on that instead. Or re-direct her to a toy and play a tug of war and fetch. This will teach her what you want her to play with and how she can get positive attention.
In the adolescent stage you need to continue all the training exercises she already has learned, firmly, but with love! She is just trying to figure things out while her hormones are changing, and she is maturing.

Raw beef bones? My butcher has raw beef bones for soup stock in various sizes and I keep some in the freezer for special rainy weekend afternoon treats or if I'm going to be out for awhile. Most occasions, I just set him up with a kong stuffed with apple chunks, a little peanut butter and maybe a few little cubes of cheese.

His response is, he barks some ( like 4-5-6 barks) when I leave, then it gets quiet when he remembers the bone or kong, then I come home 2-4 hours later and he's on the couch sleeping with one eye open or if he hears me come in the building he's quietly sitting at the door.

I've had no chewing issues with him, but I have learned he has learned how to slide open a sliding screen door.
