I have had schnauzers all my life and the snowballs in 0°C weather is always a PITA. It gets better as the weather gets colder, the snow doesn't stick anymore. I've tried the oil trick and it does help the snowballs to slide out easier and maybe not stick as much, but they always get some snow stuck. I have an Andis deshedding tool that I really suggest for schnauzers as it removes a lot of dead hairs and undercoat, cuts through tangles and mats with little to no pulling. But I find tools like that are great for separating the snowballs and breaking them apart for easier removal. Or a stripping knife works well too.
I've done the hair dryer, but I find dipping the paw in warm water (I use a tall yogurt container) to work even better/faster. My minis don't seem to mind warm water.
Lastly I use nylon jumpsuits that prevents snow from sticking and then getting wet cold in the first place. I had a pic of the jumpsuit i'll see if I can find it.
The second one I removed the back legs because my boy wasn't a fan and his back legs never got as bad and sewed some boots on for full coverage. Sometimes with the cheaper jumpsuits (I mean they are under 10$) I remove the back legs and add them to the front legs to extend the length. Works well as a raincoat too!
I forgot to say I use sweet almond oil and it absorbs really quickly, doesn't stay oily.
