Hi. I’m looking at adopting a 4 month old Newfie with a grade 4 heart murmur on both sides. I’m trying to determine if this is something I can handle. Does anyone have any ideas on treatment? Costs involved? I’ve called a Vet Cardiac specialist. It seems the office visit is $140 and the echo is $430. I can handle these charges... my question is what comes next? Financially and emotionally (I’m super emotional and I have 5 boys at home). I also have a 2 year old bichon poodle. Is puppy play going to be too much for him?

I want to be sure I can provide the best possible home for him!

Grade 4 is pretty serious. Can you handle the emotional impact of maybe losing him at a young age? That would be one of my big concerns.

What comes next really needs to be answered by the cardiac specialist. If you are really serious about adopting, I would have the workup done by the cardiac specialist, who then could answer the what next question.
