When can she play with other dogs?

Hey all! I'm new around here, and have found some awesome information. However, I had a specific question that I was looking for advice on

We got Piper when she was 5 weeks old, she is now 7 weeks 2 days. We know we got her too young, but it was a rescue situation and it was how it needed to be. She is a lab mix.

I took her to the vet two weeks ago and he gave her the first round of shots and deworming. I asked the vet when it would be ok for her to play with other vaccinated dogs in a controlled environment. Since she was so little when she got the first round of shots, he is breaking her shots down into 4 instead of 3, and she will get her last round of shots at 17 weeks. He told me she could not play with any other dogs until two weeks after her last shots, which would be 19 weeks.

This is really concerning to me, because I feel like she lost out with 3 weeks with her litter, and then she will be almost 5 months old before she can play with another dog?? Socialization is really important to us.

I have no intention of taking her to Petsmart or the dog park, or letting her play with dogs we don't know. However, we have a ton of friends who are responsible dog owners and who have fully vaccinated dogs.

Any thoughts on when it would be ok for her to play with other vaccinated dogs?

The vet told us we had to wait until she got ALL her shots. Thats what we did and you should to. Its safer for your dog and the other persons dog. If your dog spreads something to another dog or another dog spread something to your dog it could be seroius. Even if the other dog does have all its shots. Also the other dog can be rough when playing with your dog and things can end really bad. Dont worry about all her days at the litter being lost. She will probably be really social and she wont remember her litter. Our dog loves other people and dogs so dont worry about that. If you want socialization take her outside in your backyard(not in the woods) or have some people come over to your house. Play with the dog every day and you will have a social dog.

I will not let my pups interact with any dogs until they have had at least 3 sets of shots. It is a chance you take if you do it sooner. When clients want me to groom a puppy that does not have 3 sets. I have them bring them in their own kennel. I do them straight through and get them out.

She is getting her shots in 4 sets, 5 weeks, 9 weeks, 13 weeks, and 17 weeks. Are you saying you think she would be ok after the 3rd set?

Yes, that has been successful for me. All of mine have gotten 4 sets as puppies.
