By low maintenance do you mean easy to groom? Or do you mean something else?

Also, it would be very helpful if you were to tell us a bit more about your lifestyle and what you are looking for in a dog!

How much exercise would you be providing for a dog?
How much training are you planning to do?
Do you have other pets?
Do you live in an apartment or a house?
How much grooming are you willing to do?
What type of temprament to you want in a dog?

yea low maintenance as in what? If by cost effective you mean something you wont have to put money into, I say no dog for you.

we are regretful to have insufficient funds for dog purchase. we anticipate our funds to be depleted by purchase of other pets.

So then you do not need to have a dog as dogs require finances.

Even my free dogs cost me about $500-$1000 in the first month in food, supplies, vet care, licencing etc etc. If you aren't looking to spend a fortune on the dog itself, you are best going to a rescue and adopting, but please remember that even a free dog is going to cost quite a bit of money to get settled.

If you mean upkeep wise...IMO small dogs are cheaper, less food, many vet procedures are cheaper etc etc. But remember that cheapER does not equal cheap. I spend close to a grand this month on vet bills for two of my dogs, and they are less than 20lbs combined.
