What have I done!?!

This is a discussion on What have I done!?! within the Puppy Help forums, part of the Dog Training and Behavior category; Lol. It does get better, but it's a process. I have a almost 9 month old Lab/BC/Aussie and I swear if she wasn't so adorable ...

Lol. It does get better, but it's a process. I have a almost 9 month old Lab/BC/Aussie and I swear if she wasn't so adorable I'm sure I would've ran away. No one told me when I got her that she was actually a psychotic piranha/karken mix.

She has been nothing like my last dog, has met 0 of my expectations that I had going in, doesn't fit my image of a "dream dog" (curse you Lassie!!), and yet she has become the biggest love of my life; yep, that's right, I love my little psycho kracken lol. Thankfully puppies do grow into dogs, we just have to suffer a bit to get there (sorta like with kids).

So keep calm and remember the mantra: A tired puppy is a good puppy; it'll save your sanity a bit. Oh, and keep looking ahead, while enjoying all the good; because sadly puppyhood doesn't last forever.....or maybe that's a good thing?

Keep calm and just think of the cuteness! Goose drives me insane most of the time, especially now that he isn't allowed any physical activity due to a broken leg! You can only imagine an 8 month old pup with no exercise...

I'm sure it gets better though otherwise I don't think anyone could keep a dog for 15+ years!!! Patience my friend, and we are all living on the same boat as you. You're not alone!

LOL! This post made me smile.

I have similar thoughts some days. I have two toddlers and a 6 month old puppy.

Update

I thought it only fair to post an update.

I can't believe how much this puppy has grown. She is becoming an absolute delight of a dog . While she still can't resist grabbing a shoe or stuffed animal that is lying around, she is not the same land shark that she was a couple months ago. I no longer have to take her out on a leash 20 times a day. We can just open the backdoor and let her potty on her own in the backyard on the same schedule as the older dogs. I can't remember the last time she jumped on me, bit me or air snapped at somebody. She has become a really fun walking partner. She sleeps in until 9 on the weekends . In short, she has become the fun, energetic dog we were hoping to get. She has breathed new life into our older dogs, entertained the kids, encouraged our family to get out and about more (since we are all eager to walk the dog together) and become a fun and sweet part of our little household.

Thank you all for the encouragement.

Wow! This is encouraging. I brought home a shelter dog two and a half weeks ago, and just about thought I had lost my mind. Since then, I've gotten a lot of support at this site and am already starting to enjoy my dog a bit more. I'm glad to hear that your new puppy has worked out for you and your family.
