@NBGibert, admittedly online time has been sporadic, but I must confess, I had a few secret weapons, and to my surprise found a delightful third. First, I am a huge believer in Crate training and Ex Pen training especially at a young age. Being such a huge fan of High prey/energy dogs but still wanting pets not kennel dogs I find this a must to instill some sort of calm while in the house. Second line of defense, my Mum and Aunt have been avid dog owner/trainers most of their life but now are a bit too old for the 24 hour supervision of pups, but still more then happy to puppysit anytime, and although I know some purists would argue this effects "engagement" I'm not that anal, I'm still the one who can play tug and make the lure on the flirt pole move, so I'm still the "Fun" Human. Third, the surprise, my neighbour's 2 year old Rottie turned out to have one of the strongest Maternal instincts I have ever seen, so if I need a quick 1/2 hour of "me" time I can throw her next door with my neighbours and she is on cloud 9 playing Mummy, supervised of course. In return one of my daily walks is now a pack walk with their 2 dogs. Again I know some purists that would say this is wrong, and some anti pack theory people who would say the pack walk is unnecessary, but my girl sure seems to enjoy it, and when I get to upload some of the video I've shot, I think it shows the engagement is already pretty good for such a young pup.

I can't wait to see the photos and video! We did crate training, and with Penny being a rescue pup with a checkered past, she immediately took to having "her" space. I don't know what I would do without the crate--a lifesaver for new puppy parents who need a little bit of time to recuperate!

We wanted to do a pen and borrowed one from a friend, but she is a master escape artist. Plus, nephews often come to visit, and leave tiny toys we adults might not see all the time, things that puppies think should be swallowed immediately. She was so sick when we got her, I was always so paranoid she'd eat something if I wasn't watching her like a hawk, even in a pen. I guess it worked out for her though--more running and playing time, even though it was with a ragged mama!

That neighbor rottie sounds like such a cutie!
