Question about a Australian Shepherd Puppy

I don't know if this is in the right place or not I am new to this but I have a question about a aussie puppy being deaf.

I've been looking for another Australian Shepherd puppy to go with my other Aussie and we don't have many Aussies around here, so they are hard to find, well I found some puppies and they have one left. He is a blue merle with blue eyes, his face is mostly white though so could he be deaf? I know if you breed two merles their is a chance the puppies could be blind or deaf but his Mother is a blue merle and his Father is red & white, so what do you guys think? He is only 4 weeks old right now so would I be able to tell if he was deaf?

How cute he is... The breeder will probably be able to tell you as the gets old enough to go to a new home... Dogs do better with body language than sound, so it all depends on what you're wanting the dog to do? As in work?

Uhm...you can't really tell if a puppy is deaf by just looking at a picture.

Colouring doesn't really affect deafness, I think. That's likely a myth...

No, the merle gene is linked to deafness. Mostly in the case of merle to merle breedings. Pure white is also linked to deafness. It's not a myth. However, knowing that this isn't a double merle breeding, it's impossible to tell just based on the color. A lot of perfect hearing aussies have a lot of white. There's always the possibility, but you'll never know until he's tested.

Coloring does affect deafness but it is the coloring of the inner ear vs the outer ear. There is no way to know if he has pigment inside his ear but there is a reason most breed standards require color around both eyes and ears. It's to reduce the chance of deafness.
