Puppy peeing in middle of road

Hi,

today I was walking my puppy and then just as we were crossing the road (green light, but several cars waiting to cross), my puppy (4 month old) just started peeing in the middle of the road.

I was lost as he'd never done this before, but quickly just pulled him across with me, but he didn't go after that.

I'm worried now that that was wrong, but I do NOT want him thinking that it's ever okay to pee in the middle of road, especially with the amount of cars that there are where I live.

So if this ever happens again, what should I do?

Thanks!

Relax! He needed to pee, really badly and he's 4 months old, so has very little control. You probably missed that he needed to pee before you started to cross the road, and he could not wait until he got to the other side. Try to be more observant of him next time, and give him ample time to pee before "going for a walk."
Don't worry, he won't learn that the middle of the road is the best place to go.

Just continue with your normal house training.... lots of trips outside with liberal rewards for potty activity!

BTW, he's a bit young for long walks around the neighborhood. Unless he is eager to do these walks, you may be pushing him a bit too fast. At 4 months, a romp in the yard and maybe a short walk on your own block, is usually about right.

I have to laugh because even though Cobber is 99% likely to pee/poop in the grass, there was one time when we were on one of our evening walks around the neighborhood. I felt him pull on the leash and when I turned around, there he was pooping on the sidewalk! Usually there's all this clue time beforehand when he starts hunting around for the one perfect blade of grass that he must find to poop on, but I guess he waited just a little too long this time and out it came. I cleaned it up best I could (interesting looking stain left behind). He's never done that again So I wouldn't worry about this peeing in the road being a setback of any kind.

Yesterday Jessie was trying to poo in a carpark! told her its not the place to poo and got her out of it and onto some grass where she did poo.
