puppy mom guilt

hooley is 4 months and we are taking him to get neutered today. we have to take him to his rescue vet about 50 mins away. he gets crazy car sick so the vet told us to give him half a dramamine. it didn't work. he has puked several times and now it is white foam bcs he hasn't eaten. and now he has to get snipped. I am feeling horrible. maybe we should have waited to make the appt but we wanted it done before my hubby and I go back to work. sorry. need to rant. feeling awful for my pup.

Isn't 4 months a little early for neutering?

Don't feel bad. Even if you would have waited for the surgery he still would have gotten car sick. (you said he gets car sick all the time) The optimum age for neutering varies depending on who you talk to. It is always safer to put a dog "under" when it is older, but these days there are safer anesthetics to use with younger dogs. Speedy recovery to you all! Keep us posted on how it went.

update: he made it through fine and is back to his crazy self today. although I am happy with my decision to do it early based on his healing and recovery my research did not prepare me for keeping my bc mix puppy from running and jumping during the zoomies. tonight he had 2.5 days of lethargy to work out. crating/baby gate in hallway is not his favorite when he wants to work. hopefully this week goes fast!! Thanks for the words of encouragement lucklein.
