Puppy losing hair on belly at 10 weeks....

Hello Everyone!

I have a 10 week old female maltipoo. I was wondering if it is normal for her to be losing hair on her belly area. She does not have hair loss anywhere else except here. I was thinking it is b/c she is female and it might be nature exposing her nursing area. I tried to Google it but found nothing. Thanks in advance for answering my silly question!

welcome to the forum. this isn't a silly question at all actually. you should make an appointment for her to see the vet though. hair loss can be a symptom of quite a few things from mange to thyroid issues and the sooner you get treatment for her the better.

good luck and keep us posted.

A picture would help.
Is the skin where the hair has gone showing any changes - dryness, rash, color shift? How large of an area is showing loss?

It is her whole belly but does not seem to be irritated at all. Is it not normal for female dogs to lose their belly hair? I took her to the vet the other day for just a regualr check up and nothing was wrong, but her hair was not gone at this time.

if the hair wasn't gone at the time, the vet would have no reason to suspect something was wrong when your dog gets a check-up, they aren't going to check for things unless they suspect them, just like for humans, a thyroid test usually isn't done unless they have a reason to do it as most dogs don't have a thyroid problem. same thing with a skin scraping (this is how they check for things like mange) of course this isn't life threatening at the moment, but no it is not normal for her to lose hair on her belly.
