I have a new puppy, 12 weeks old (lab x bitzer) she is gorgeous and well behaved (a bit of puppy chewiness - which is manageable with chew toys) 90% of the time, however she is extremely protective of bones (which I actually think is normal) and it would never bother me, except I have 3 children, so I worry if one of them gets too close, and gets nipped.
My instinctive way of dealing with it would have been "boys, leave that puppy ALONE when she has a bone!" but I've had comments from people who say I need to train her out of this behaviour.
Any thoughts at all?
I have read the book "The Dog Listener" and do the Amichien Bonding stuff, and puppy definitely sees me as the leader, she's a great pup.
Other than this, she is my first ever pup, I've only ever been around a full grown german shep when i was growing up, and an adult lab when I adopted her, and now this puppy 5 years later, after my lovely lab died.
Thanks In Advance.
It's super important to me to get this puppy trained right, as I want her to be a dog we can take everywhere with us as a family.
I am taking her to a puppy preschool starting 7th of Jan to help socialise her with other dogs etc.
