Picking a dog

Hello, I have a form of anxiety and I'm attempting to get approval from the school board to have a dog in the dorms. Dogs have always helped me deal with my anxiety. I need help coming up with a breed that is laidback and doesn't bark much, and is okay with being left alone in my room. It will never be alone for more than a couple hours at a time, and I am able to walk it a couple miles on a daily basis. Do you have any ideas?

I always thought greyhounds were very active dogs, would a greyhound be alright in my room for that long?

Haha, that sounds perfect, a couch potato is just what I need. And he'd be able to run with me in the evenings too!

Are greyhounds easily excitable? Do they bark much?

Google Greyhound temperaments/characteristics and it will pull up lots of websites to give you information on them...

I owned a greyhound and this was my experience..

- was content to sleep most of the day while we were gone
- every day she would go wild and run around the yard very fast for about a minute
- very friendly around other dogs (adopted her at five too)
- never heard her bark
- stayed right by my side while walking with no prior training
- gorgeous dogs (:
- didn't like to sit - body isn't build for sitting
- would fall asleep outside during the day & was such a cuddle buddy
- didn't play with toys

I only have owned one greyhound so this may just be her personality.
Also, I wouldn't invest in a dog bed. They'll probably just take the couch!

Thanks everybody for all your help! I think this is the perfect breed. Now I just have to get the school board's approval.
