Wednesday will be 2 weeks that I have had him and no change in his teeth. He has went from 2.4 lbs to 3.2. I see all of his bottom front teeth but the gums are still covering them and no sign of that 1 top tooth yet. He has his back teeth and canines, has since the day I got him. According to the date the breeder gave me he would be 12 weeks old today. Could he possibly just have teeth probs? His eyes don't seem as large to me as other shih tzu pics I have seen. She said the dad was an imperial. Could this happen from bad breeding or breeding smaller shih tzus?

I guess it's possible that the baby teeth in the front fell out before you got him and the permanents just haven't grown in yet... (??)

I doubt it though. This is really weird...

Good weight gain though!

I'm of the opinion that most things can happen from bad breeding...

A couple of those bottom teeth look like permanents, but those top incisors certainly look like baby teeth... and based on the picture, he looks old enough that all of those teeth should be in.

Nothing you can really do now and it does look like they're coming it but slowly. I'd say just wait it out. Get him used to you playing with his mouth/teeth NOW, because you should probably brush them everyday to minimize his future dental disease (Shih Tzu's have horrible teeth typically... )

If he is anywhere near 12 weeks old, he should have all his teeth in. He is awfully small for a purebred Shih Tzu, my male Shih Tzu pup weighed that at 6 weeks of age but he was going to be the proper size for a Shih Tzu which is 12 to 14 lbs and even up to 16 lbs.

I know some breeders do breed what they like to call "Imperial" Shih Tzu and that could be what is causing the problems with his teeth. His weight gain is not very much but at least he is gaining and looks really cute in his picture.

She told me when I got him that his dad was an imperial, I just had no idea what that meant at the time lol. The two teeth on the bottom have pushed through a little more but no other changes. If her date was right he would be 13 weeks tomorrow. I don't know why its driving me crazy not knowing his exact age. He eats very good, a little piggy! He seems healthy and very happy, always full of energy. He gets his next shots on Friday so I guess I'll see what the vet thinks of his teeth again. Thank you!

Update on Roscoe! The rest of his bottom teeth did break through yesterday. Over the past few days his hair seemed to get frizzy so I took him back to the groomer this morn and had her trim him up. His hair is lightening so pretty! And he is now 3.7 lbs! How can u tell if his incisors on bottom are puppy or permanent?

It's all based on size.

Thanks! I think the more I try to figure out the more confused I get. When I got him 3 weeks ago he didn't have his incisors (well a few on top) but he did have his canines and premolars. That page said the incisors come first? Sorry I'm asking a million questions lol.

They're supposed to.

Honestly, and I know you won't take offense to this lol, but Roscoe's teeth issue doesn't make much sense.

Can you re-take photos and post them again? I'm super curious... lol
