My puppy doesn't recognize my toy poodle....

I have a 10 month old fo-tzu that we got when she was 8 weeks old. I also have an 8 year old toy poodle. From day 1 they always got along. They play together, sleep together, etc. However, when I bring the toy poodle home from the groomer the fooscreams and barks in a panic. She hides behind me or jumps on up on me and clings to me for dear life. As time goes on she settles down a little bit but she still won't go near the poodle and if the poodle even walks by her she starts barking at him fiercely. By the next day, things are back to normal and they are playmates again. It is so bizarre. Doesn't she know his smell?

Dogs sure smell and look different when they come back from the groomer! Every time I bring my dog back, people ask me "Did you get another dog?" Lol. That's the fun thing about poodles.

I'm sure your young puppy will grow out of this behavior and with time won't be so startled.

Eww there's a hybrid dog breed like that? D: (you know that this is a derogative term for female productive organs? you know...like c*nt. )

perhaps the puppy doesn like the smell?
i'd use the situation as a possibility and reward calm interaction with the poodle.
I'm sure the puppy will grow out of it.

I hope she does grow out of it because I think it really stresses out the poodle (and me).

Interesting fact, Mathilda. I have never heard that. In fact, I googled the term "fo-tzu"got I got nothing but information and pics of the adorable hybrid dog.

it not exactly the same spelling, but it sounds like that (you write it Fotze....I really feel uncomfortable with that, so I write it not so visible).
like the German/polish pholisopher "Kant" also sounds like the english "c*nt".

Side note before the thread goes *too* off topic, I worked at a pet store where a lady brought her "shi-poo" in. She kept calling it a "sh*t-poo", and I genuinely think that's how she thought it was pronounced.. lol!

This post is nearly 2 weeks old but did you ever think about letting your other dog watch the Poodle get shaved? That way she can see it's her buddy going from a floofy coat to a sheared one.
