Bigdoglover: Leave it was easy for my dog to pick up and yours will prob get it easily too. followed these steps:

1) treat in closed fist. I let the dog lick myhand all he wanted and when he gave up and looked at me for direction I said "Good leave it" and gave him the treat. Repeat several times
2) Open your fist and let the treat be in an open palm and do the same thing (close into a fist every time he tries to steal the treat, give him the treat and praise when he looks at you for direction instead of obsesses over treat.
3)palm on the ground...
4) treat on the ground (throw your palm over the treat if they look like they want to steal it.

The end goal is to put the treat onthe ground and say "leave it" and him not steal it...and they will be able to realize this will work for other dogs, a toy, or whatever. In fact once he is good with the treat you can do "leave it" with a favorite toy. makes all levels of training easier because yoru dog learns focusing on you not the treat.
