Leaving puppy home alone for the first time- anxious

I adopted a 5 month old puppy on friday. She is doing perfectly in her crate at night, sleeping the entire time. During the day, she willingly sleeps in her crate with the door open, and today I started to shut it and go outside for 5 minutes or so, no issues there. In 2 weeks, I'm going to a birthday party for probably 4 hours. I would like to keep her in her crate, but am becoming anxious already.

She has a bunch of toys and a nylabone in there, and I have a kong that I can freeze. Is there anything that I can add to just make sure she is content? Luckily the hours I will be gone is normally when she is sleeping anyway.

I'd suggest do this every day and gradually increasing the amount of time that you are away from her.

One of the things that helped me most when my puppies were puppies was when a trainer told me "look: puppies need to sleep A LOT. Your puppy needs to be in the kennel frequently, in order to grow and gain weight and facilitate brain development." I think most of us here would rather not leave them in the kennel any more than a couple of hours, but it's my understanding that at that age, up to four hours is okay. So if that's what you have to do occasionally, do it and don't feel guilty. I gather there are some people who leave them in for eight hours while they go to work. I think those people should keep cats, not dogs. But it sounds like you're doing fine. Your puppy will be safe and well-rested while you go and have some fun.

She should be fine in her create if you use the two weeks to gradually extend the time you leave her alone in there.
If you are really unhappy about it though, you could research doggy day cares in your area, some will do a few hours, and it's good to have your dog used to being somewhere else in case she ever needs boarding.
