Unhappy I think Lily is from a puppy mill.

Hi everyone, I need some help. I think my puppy Lily is from a puppy mill. She is from J&L pets. when I went to go get her the people would not let me see where she was kept. I know she was kept in a shed out back with the other puppies. she is very healthy but is there any way I could find out? Thanks!

J & L Pets | Puppies for Sale in Lancaster, PA & NJ

Is this the website?

If so, I would definitely say either a puppy mill or a BYB. They breed designer dogs and the fact that they wouldn't let you see her living conditions is a big red flag.

yeah, the people that sold her were old people. she is really healthy. when I went to go get her she was waiting in their laundry room. she was also paper trained so I guess she didn't get to go outside ever. NO ONE BUY FROM J&L PETS THEY ARE CRUEL PEOPLE!!!!!!!

It can't have been easy to realize this--thank you for making sure the rest of us know.

Our first dog was most definitely a puppy mill dog. My parents got her from a pet store before we knew any better. I was 12, and I remember wondering how Belle was exactly 8 weeks old when the store owners said she'd been there 2 weeks already. Even at that young age, I knew puppies shouldn't be taken from their mothers before 8 weeks, and was suspicious.

I remember her papers said she was from Pennsylvania, which I believe is one of the biggest puppy mill states (I could be wrong--I remember hearing this from the news somewhere). Even though she was a great dog, I couldn't help but feel very sad about where her mother was, how she was being treated, and if her siblings were doing any better. She lived to be 16.5 but wasn't without health issues like recurring UTIs and chronic acid reflux that plagued her since she was a puppy. When she passed, I was glad we were able to give her a good life, but still so sad about her beginnings. I don't know how people can do this to any type of living creature just to make a quick buck.

Hey Puplov! My wife and I just brought a dog from them within the past week and I came across your post. After only 5 days of having the dog last night she just had a seizure and we had to take her to our local Animal Hospital. The dog seems to be extremely healthy but now after doing my research I realized this has been a huge issue in this part of Pennyslvania. We are counting our blessings b/c the 1st house we went to was an older Amish couple and after searching his name I see that they have had multiple charges brough against them in the past. Tomorrow we are going to take her to our vet and I will also be requesting more information from the same couple you purchased from. I'm sure you have already done this but if not I would definitely recommend having a full exam done to check her health. Best of luck!

Yup and she conveniently also just got done grooming her. We are in a TOUGH spot right now. Our 7 day "guarantee" is coming up but everything besides the seizure is great. The dog has a great temperament and is a beautiful dog but I'm just concerned about the bloodlines of the dog now.

*sigh* please spread the word in your area that this place needs to be shut down. You can place a concern Into your local police department to do a wellness check on the animals.
