It can't have been easy to realize this--thank you for making sure the rest of us know.
Our first dog was most definitely a puppy mill dog. My parents got her from a pet store before we knew any better. I was 12, and I remember wondering how Belle was exactly 8 weeks old when the store owners said she'd been there 2 weeks already. Even at that young age, I knew puppies shouldn't be taken from their mothers before 8 weeks, and was suspicious.
I remember her papers said she was from Pennsylvania, which I believe is one of the biggest puppy mill states (I could be wrong--I remember hearing this from the news somewhere). Even though she was a great dog, I couldn't help but feel very sad about where her mother was, how she was being treated, and if her siblings were doing any better. She lived to be 16.5 but wasn't without health issues like recurring UTIs and chronic acid reflux that plagued her since she was a puppy. When she passed, I was glad we were able to give her a good life, but still so sad about her beginnings. I don't know how people can do this to any type of living creature just to make a quick buck.
