Help Choosing a New Puppy?

My wife and I just recently purchased a home and will be looking to add a puppy to the mix once we are completly settled with the house. We have started looking into a variety of dog breeds and was hoping you can help us with some ideas or advice.. I have always grown up with Beagles, and while I love beagles I was interested in some other breeds that may be comparable, love hounds. We both work fulltime and our yard is not huge, so a super high energy pup will be tough to keep exercised fully. We want a breed that is medium sized, good with kids and is friendly to strangers. I am partial to hounds but open to any suggestions. Would be nice to have a new fishing partner on the boat with me this spring... Look forward to the reccomendations...

Because you both work full time I would suggest adopting an adult as a puppy will require lots of attention. Also if you make a list of what you want in a dog then take it to a shelter they can help you find a good match.

I work fulltime but can still manage a puppy, not my first go around with bringing up a puppy. Just wanted some advice on a type of breed that fit our interests, especially regarding activity level.

With a puppy you cannot say a particular breed will fit those requirements especially as an adult. Also a hound needs lots of mental stimulation and exercise. You could look for a greyhound rescue near you as they tend to be amazing with kids and people! Sorry for a choppy ressponse, on my cell

One breed that comes to my mind is an aussie. Another breed you may want to consider, since you like boat rides, is a labrador retriever. They like water.

Both labrador retrievers and australian shepherds tend to be very high energy. Like Pawz, I would also recommend going to a shelter and letting them know what kind of dog you are looking for. Usually the workers are very knowledgeable on the dogs they are keeping and can help you out a ton.

Also, smokey11, Great Danes are awesome dogs!
