harness and collar.. my novice dog ownership is showing!

Ok this is probably going to show of my dog ownership inexperience, but Today at the vet he suggested Bentley use a harness instead of a collar. He said it was easier on his trach for walks. So I got two, a small easy step harness at petco, which turned out to be too big, and a small harness from target, which is almost too small.. I donated his old collars to the animal shelter.

I was thinking about it though, with the easy step harness should he wear a collar for his tags? I had planned to attach them to one of the loops for the leash.. but now I am wondering, do dogs wear a collar for their tags and then just the harness with it? The regular one from target comes up higher and really there is no place to put the collar, but the other one I wonder. If so I might return it and just get another regular one in a med from target. (for some reason I like their collars and harnesses best there I am finding)

Ok so both and go with the easy step harnes, or return the easy step and get just the regular harness and stick with that?

OH and btw ...Bentley wants to know if you think he looks smart in his new sweater?

Awww...
Bently is too cute!

And personally I do both harnesses and collars.
I have the collars and tags are on all day except for when they are crated.
I put harnesses on for walks or when we go somewhere.

this is the one from target that is already as loose as it can go just about .. I don't see how a collar would work with that one, but the other one seems to need one still I attached the tags where the leash attaches.. at the back. I know some people with a pug that do that, but the easy step harness seems like it comes off easier and that there should be tags on a collar just in case.. but I think I am returning that one anyways.

One of my dogs wears the same type of harness.
I just gently pull her tags and collar through the neck of the harness so that the collar is above her harness.

I'll take a photo of her wearing her harness and collar in a bit. Hopefully you'll be able to see what I mean through all of her fluff!

But whatever you decide to do is perfectly OK!
Many people do attach tags right to their dog's harness!

awesome thank you! I think I will just go that route. He seems way less bothered just wearing the harness around the house than he was by his collar anyways. I am kind of glad the vet told me. (I thought it was just for pulling on the leash and he is pretty good about that But the vet said in general it is better for his trach when he is on his leash)

I will return the petco step in one though, I had him wear it for a little bit today and he can get out of it too easily even though it is on snug enough.. (barely snug enough) it is too big somewhere. (just not fitting right in general even when he gets bigger I am not sure it is going to work out) I am just going to pick up another target one in a med for him since he will be out of this one in 2 weeks flat.
