Eating habits?

Should we be concerned with a low appetite?

Monday: ate a few tablespoons of canned (this was after the spay). +pain killer

Tuesday: ate like a champ, she had 3 meals of kibble mixed with canned (probably 1/4 cup each time), a Kong filled with the same & some PB (when she was home alone), and some training treats. +pain killer

Wed/Today: won't take treats, won't eat Kong, eats around the kibble to get a bit of canned, but she's probably only making 2 tablespoons of canned in the whole day, if that. +pain killer

She's drinking water fine. She makes snorty noises occasionally when she sighs or breaths heavily; I don't think it's related? Her poos were a bit diarrhea-y on Tuesday (assuming from the food switch), but have been firm and regular yesterday and today, despite the low amount of food.

Am I being paranoid? The vet said if she wasn't eating by Tuesday to bring her back in, but she ate A TON Tuesday compared to yesterday and today. I am a worry wart.

She could have kennel cough, very common in shelters. I think one of my dogs had KC and didn't eat much. Is her activity level normal? Will she eat anything of high quality? what about if you put water in her food and let it mush

She eats canned food pretty good. Actually, I just remembered, given 2 tablespoons of canned last night she gobbled it down (we gave it to her at about 10 p.m. because we were worried), but then stopped pretty quickly. She seems to have low activity for a puppy, but I really don't know what normal is for her. The activity level has been consistent Tue-today...I would say up every hour to potty and play for a bit, then laying down again, either to just lay and look about or to nap. She will always get up and excited if the cat gets too close. She made some hacking noises on Monday on the way home from the pound, but it was after some pretty heavy whines. My concern is how interested in food she was Tuesday, then it just went to canned interest only. At what point should we take her to the vet again? She went Monday, and they took a temperature and everything (I assume it was normal).

what if you try giving her more canned food? Like a good serving of it. If she is eating that I think she is being picky likely so mushing the dry food in water and adding canned to it should help.

We have a dog right now that had babies and was sick as all get out and we have been working on getting weight back on her now that the pups are gone. She did the eat around the kibble and take up all the wet food.

Anywho, I personally think if she eats that (the big heap of wet and dry mushed with wet) then I wouldn't worry. As for the hacking, is it a cough at all or just a hack and does it look like he is trying to hack something up? Tinkerbell hacks and our vet thinks when she was altered they used too big of a breathing tube so it irritated her throat thing (wow I am on it with the terminology today huh?!)

LOL. That's ok. I actually mentioned to the vet about the hacking sounding like her throat was dry. It still sounds like that to me, only not as bad as it was Monday. That actually makes sense because all of the treats we give her are really dry. We'll try getting more moisture into her and seeing if it helps over the next few days.

Well, she just at 1-2 tablespoons of canned. I think we'll try mixing the soft kibble and canned to see if she likes it tomorrow. How long should we feed her the soft food for?

You can give her more canned food tonight if she hasn't eaten much I would try the soft food for a day or two then put a little bit of water in to soak for just a min or two with wet then go back to dry with wet or dry only

what does she weigh? They don't eat much, honestly, Tippys amount of food is so small it alarms people...

I agree it sounds like Kennel cough. Sounds horrible doesn't it. Yeck!

Good point crio, maybe the amt she hate yesterday (it was yesterday right? Lol) really overfilled her so today she's takin it easy

Fwiw if its kennel cough its a simple round of treatment so if she keeps it up with the hacking I'd take her in to see the vet
