So Heidi is coming along quite nicely (still some difficulties with potty training, but she's getting there!). I was at my parent's house yesterday where there are three dogs in residence (Molly, Miniature Dachshund 3 years old, not spayed, Norman, Miniature Dachshund 1 year old, neutered, Mocha LabxPit mix, 8 years old, spayed).
We've been over there a couple times, and Heidi loves to play with the two little ones. Mocha is not a player with other dogs, so mostly does her own thing, and gives a growl and walks away if dogs are bugging her.
We were getting ready to go to a private quarry and the dogs were playing. Heidi came over to Mocha and was sniffing her face, and Mocha growled, and I expected her to turn away (as she has every other time, as this happens frequently with Levi), and instead she snapped and bit Heidi right in the face. Thankfully she seems to have good bite inhibition as Heidi got a scratch, but not a puncture. She started screaming and hiding under the table. Her screaming drew attention from Norman, who attacked her by grabbing her back leg (now she has a scratch there too, again no puncture). Molly ran away from the screaming and hid in the kitchen.
It took a few minutes of holding her to calm her down, but she did, and we isolated Norman and Mocha to their respective rooms. She was then very happy to chase the ball, and play with Molly. Norman came with us to the Quarry, and we intensely supervised them, and they got along great, running, and wading through the water, digging etc.
First of all, I feel absolutely terrible
, so try to come at me with a little bit of kid gloves. Is she going to be afraid of big dogs now? Is there anything I can do to help her forget about this? Or are puppies quick to forgive and forget?
