Thanks everyone! So much to learn..I'm reading everything I can. And yes I am sleep deprived! We have the whelping box in our bedroom and I wake up everytime a pup whimpers or momma moves. And twice she has jumped up on the bed carrying a pup! Both times I put her and the pup back in the box but it was somewhat frightening. The whelping box seems warm enough..pups are always warm to the touch..occassionally the snuggle up in a big pile..but sometimes separate into piles of 2 or 3. The mother dog now seems content to leave them for 5 or 10 minutes (pups are a week old today)..I'm assuming this is normal?? I definitely can see the joys of puppy raising..but also understand why only someone with resources, knowledge, and lots and lots of time, should attempt it!

Hang in there!
(Sounds like she certainly trusts you with her pups.)

I am sure I am not the only one who would just LOVE to see pics of the pups and momma, hint, hint hint.....

Aww! Although I don't have time for this kind of endeavor, I am sort of jealous! What a great thing to experience! I would also love to see some pics of these babies. I bet they are totally adorable.

I hope you can find homes for them too. Maybe if you charge just what their vet bills will cost you (and you can show them those and have them transferred to their new vet, etc) then people won't mind at all. And if you tell the story of how she was rescued preggers, etc then people will love it.

Wow, now I feel like a proud momma. I will take pictures and post them (I wanted to do that but thought it might be a bit 'tacky' or boastful!!!) The puppies no longer look like 'things' but are actually looking like...dogs! Amazing the change in just a week. We go to the vet next week but I think everything is going well.

You are amongst dog LOVERS, of course you should not feel like posting pics would be "boastful" or "tacky", they are kind of expected! LOL!

I've never enjoyed the experience of puppies, but we did have a stray pregnant cat show up and claim us as hers. (years ago)
That was the best experience. We were there during the birth, and then helping her raise the kittens was so much fun, I sooo enjoyed all their mischief!
(We kept two of the males, they are 11 years old now.)

It is a such precious experience, and yes, they do change so quickly, enjoy them, and take lots of pics so you can enjoy looking back at them in years to come.....

Hello everyone.Puppies and mom still doing well.Am going to try to get pictures tonite. Puppies are so big...and momma is small...they eat in shifts so there's room for everyone. She's definitely enjoying 'time away' from the kids every now and then. When they are all sleeping she sneaks away for a quiet nap. Can't blame here.
