I have been having this same problem with my 8 month old Lab. His name is Sandor and he is going through this horrible teenage defiant stage and the biting/jumping at me is a big part of it. He bites hard too. He doesn't seem to do this for any other reason than to try to engage me in play. That tail wags and wags as he's trying to devour my limbs. He doesn't seem to understand that it hurts me despite my protests. He's pretty big for his age too. I've tried everything the internet has suggested so far: yelping at him in pain, ignoring him, and even grabbing him by the scruff and giving a firm NO! or NO BITING! None of this seems to work. He seriously launches himself into the air and bounces off me while trying to snag a hand. I've been crating him immediately when he gets out of control like that. It seems to come out of nowhere... We'll be nicely playing with a toy (like fetch with his favorite Kong toys or something similar) then out of nowhere he'll decide to ignore the toys and go straight for my hands or arms. If I walk away and ignore 90% of the time he'll quickly follow trying to bite my feet or ankles. He's a total land shark and his teeth sure do hurt. Should I just keep crating him when he's like that and wait out all this crazy puppy behavior? I really hope he grows out of this. I do what I can to teach him with treats and such but lately he's just been so stubborn about not biting it's getting discouraging.

Deep breaths! Most puppies start out as sharks!

Are you giving your puppy any scheduled nap times over the day?
One of my boys Brutus turned into a full fledged hellhound if he didn't get his naps!
You say he's at his worst after 7pm?
What about doing a few minutes of walking, few minutes of training inside, out for a potty and then straight in the kennel for his supper at 6, then let him nap?
That along with redirecting and ignoring, helped me!

You can also teach something called " a positive interrupter noise" for when they start their "naughtiness"!

@Inuka Hi from another crazy Lab owner !

You should see the SCARS on my hands from when Chewy was that age ! Same thing - hands being the only thing he wanted to play with and nothing seemed to stop him. DON'T PANIC! It does get better as they get older as long as you keep doing what you're doing.

I just had to stay consistent with Chewy and I'd either

1) turn around when he would bite us. biting = zero attention
2) if that didn't work, I'd leave the room for a few minutes. biting = zero attention
3) have a toy on hand all the time to stick in his mouth instead

He's almost 2 now and has calmed down a lot, but I keep hearing that around 3 yrs old is usually how long it takes a Lab to mature.

Keep up with the training!
