Hey puppyplace, I understand you want 2 puppies instead of just one, and it is okay BUT I highly suggest leaving a year between getting them. Raising one puppie will be very difficult, but two... they're gonna be so attached to each other that when you try to train one, it'll be like trying to teach a 2 year old that candy doesn't taste good. Or when you seperate them it'll be like telling my 18 year old brother that he can't aford the sport car he wants, his still looking, just like that puppy is franticaly going to be looking for it's sibbling. Getting two at the same time, the puppies will love each other more then any of you, but getting them at different times, they'll have a time to bond with you, not just the other puppy. So, I'm not saying no, just, wait before getting a second one. If you do, I also suggest waiting until after you move. Moves can be very stressful for dogs.

Are you kidding me, you could never have a dog like that in a city!!! You couldn't even handle one, you'd just end up getting someone hurt, then you'd have to put the dog down.

Since we are on a "bad idea" roll. Why not get a pet tiger or gator? Those are equally appropriate

I'm going to go ahead and assume this is a joke x3
They were not suggesting you get a Pyr instead of a Lab- I think the thinking was more that the other members were afraid you might get one based solely on their attractive appearance.

My advice is to get one puppy, and make it a Lab, not a Great Pyrenees. They're great looking dogs, but they're very territorial and while it might seem nice to have a guard dog, in reality it may be very hard to train your pup to switch "off" in appropriate situations. They were also bred to work with sheep on their own, and are therefore sometimes considered stubborn and willful, as well as possessing an almost cat-like independence that some dog owners are not interested in. They bark a lot.

But!
Here's some Pyr info:
AKC, Wiki, Pyr Club of America.
My advice is to read it and honestly ask yourself if you're ready for such a large, high-maintenance dog. Perhaps a Pyr is the "right breed for you", so to speak, but be sure of that before you make a commitment.

I know what you're feeling right now, and I get it- you don't want to be told by a bunch of people over the internet that you're not allowed to have two pups, probably much less that you're not allowed a specific breed. But keep in mind the reality of what it'll be like to have two puppies, especially if one is a Great Pyrenees! That's a huge dog and a massive responsibility.

I hope you figure all of this out in a satisfying way without too much stress. It's a big choice.

*sigh* I know a bear or gator or tiger is a bad idea. I'm afraid of crocodiles, in fact.
You can't compare a large dog to something that's going to rip your face off.
I hate hate HATE it when people mock me just because I am a minor and aren't an expert on dogs. You didn't join this forum knowing everything either, and certainly didn't learn it in five days. Don't let my post count fool you. I'm chatty. That's all. Plus, most of you have owned more than one dog in your life. Most of you aren't eleven either. Some of you are so used to having 2 or more dogs that one dog doesn't feel right.
I know some of you may be like, "All the more reason to learn!" Yes it is. But mocking isn't going to teach anyone. It'll only hurt feelings.
Is everyone celebrating New Year's early?

lol, I said gator, not crocs

Look, your setting yourself up for this. Its nothing to do with age. We understand its all learning, but when you ask for suggestions, and then don't take them, or at least consider them, people will not take you seriously

I am so tempted to post two pics here.

one of me hugging an alligator that was used for 16 years to educate elementary kids, that never bit a soul

and the other of my cat that hospitalized me for a bite that nearly killed me.

dogs can be dangerous also. Especially large dogs
