I'm seventeen, eighteen in January, a home-schooled senior (Junior, officially, as I am taking a sort-of gap year) in high school. As a home-schooler, I've got plenty of time to devote to a dog :3 I'm actually looking forward to being kept much more busy then I have been lately.

That's good Younger kids tend to be a lot less responsible than they say they are, You definitely sound like you are being very responsible and Congrats on your new puppy.

So! Bit of a big update, I suppose. I've had a good hard think about the info I've gathered so far- and the sheer price of a Samoyed pup, much as I adore them, and I've decided to get a slightly smaller, less high maintenance dog from a shelter or rescue. For whatever reason, having decided that, I have this really good feeling that I'm going to run into the perfect dog if I just wait a little, which is just making me wicked psyched xD

And much as I hate to admit it, a dog who is a little smaller might be a better choice for my living situation. I figure when I'm older, as in out of college and with a steady job, I can live in the country and have an Irish Wolfhound and a Samoyed and a Great Dane if I want, so I'll just go a little easier for my first dog.

That is an absoloutely fantastic idea, BB. Shelter dogs are often perfect dogs that due to no fault of their own have been given up - you're bound to find a smaller, perfect companion for your lifestyle, and I wish you good luck!

I'm glad to hear that you have decided to go with a smaller shelter dog!

I honeslty think that is the best choice!
Not only will you be saving a life, but a small dog is going to be much easier for you to travel with and also find housing in the future.
