Hi guys, good posts thanks. I can hear the Rat terror down the hall who barks occasionally and it's loud so I know my dog can be heard by many. Tonight after the park I bought hamburger patties and she ate a 5 oz raw pattie. I have given her the so-called gourmet ground prepared raw food, has organs and tripe and bones...chicken, turkey, beef. She's not into it. She loves cooked meat. I like the idea of positive reinforcement and saw a great video here on that this afternoon.
I just bought a clicker. She knows some commands but now I'm going to work on stay. She knows my command for quiet when she wants to listen. Her sit is basically bouncing her butt off the floor. Everyone in the parks remark how much energy she has and she's around 10 pounds and can pull me like a sled dog! I was told Cockapoos are high energy dogs.
I do like to rough house sometimes with her it's so much fun. I enjoy her being feisty to a point. When I'm telling her to be quiet and she doesn't listen she knows I'll come out of the kitchen and chase her and she loves that "game". She makes me laugh. So yes I have to be the adult and train her in earnest. The small victory tonight of her filling her belly was great. I have to give up on the ground raw and stick with raw hamburger or chicken parts. I hold the chicken because it's slippery and don't want it rubbed around the floor too much. When she can do better it's just throw it to her.
Again the positive reinforcement is great advice and using a pouch would make my life easier! I have a variety of treats and read they should be broken up into small pieces.
THANK YOU ALL.
