any pointers on social awkwardness at dog park

My dog was born september of last year so hes still a puppy for a little bit. I got him when he was around 2 months. He is one of the sweetest dogs ive ever met as far as temperment goes. Hes a anatolian shepard ( he is mixed with great pyranease (sp?) But looks mostly like anatolian. Weve gone to the dog park several times but he hasnt quite gotten the hang of playing with the other dogs yet. Hell go up to them and think there playing with him so hell start running but the others dogs arent playing with him. I dont even know if they really know hes there. Its probably silly to worry but hes my baby and I worry that he can never get the other dogs to play with him. A lot of times he ends up annoying the people that are there because he actually gets attention from them. Is there anything I can do that will help his social awkwardness?

Almost forgot to mention I do have a boxer/pitbull mix at home and they play together. Mostly chasing games so im sure thats where he gets it from but id still love him interacting with other dogs well.

I don't think dog parks is the right place your dog. I, myself, am not a fan of parks, too many variables from over zealous dogs, and owners that don't give a hoot if their dog becomes aggressive with other dogs.

I think you would do better taking your pup to dog classes where they can socialize with other dogs, and play time too. Also you could look into doggie day care, where he could play, with supervision, other pooches. Even for just an hour if that is all you need.

Welcome to Dog Forum, you will get lots of help here.

I'm sure other will tell you about dog parks and their experiences

Yea, nearly every time I am at a dog park there's dog fights or owners arguing. Some people are horrible at the parks and don't care if their dog fights, in many cases because they have a huge dog and figure it wont get hurt but can care less about yours. I stay away now as well. Also, we have a small element at mine that goes in smoking cigarettes, which I think is rude but whatever.

I'm not a fan of dog parks. For some dogs and some people they're great. The problem with many dog parks is there are dogs who don't belong there and owners who are oblivious. I agree that finding another way to let your dog interact with dogs you know have good dog social skills is the way to go.
