advise needed on feeding a puppy

Hi,

I am wondering whether I am feeding my 3 month old jackapoo enough.
She is on Purina for puppies, gets fed twice a day - 1.5 handfuls per each meal. When she is finished with her food she runs away to play with her toys.

During the day she does not usually check her bowl for any snacks, unless she goes to get some water and might glance at the feeding bowl. I guess that means she is not all hungry hunting for food, right?

Could someone advise me whether Im feeding my pup enough?

She is active playful little thing, takes around 3 short naps through the day, usually after a good walk or playing actively. To me it looks like she gets enough calorie intake. Maybe Im wrong

If she's active, playful, alert and happy, she's probably eating enough.

Can I give her small pieces of hard boiled egg whites from time to time as a treat?

[QUOTE=sofya24c;192153]Hi,

I am wondering whether I am feeding my 3 month old jackapoo enough.
She is on Purina for puppies, gets fed twice a day - 1.5 handfuls per each meal. When she is finished with her food she runs away to play with her toys.

I don't know what 1.5 handfuls are? I always use a measuring cup to know how much I am feeding. I would get rid of the purina and look into feeding a healthier meal. Purina is known for their inferior ingredients
purina puppy
1. corn , corn and more corn just plain fat
2. chicken by products can be downed and diseased animals or road kill
3. animal fat can be old restaurant grease that has been reprocessed
4. soy is allergy forming.
5. animal digest is just more garbage meat.
6. menadione sodium bisulfite complex is linked to liver failure.
7. Then to top it off you have red yellow and blue dyes that cause seizures
Ingredients: Whole grain corn, corn gluten meal, chicken by-product meal, brewers rice, animal fat preserved with mixed-tocopherols (form of vitamin E), soybean meal, egg and chicken flavor, barley, animal digest, calcium phosphate, fish oil, calcium carbonate, dried yeast, salt, potassium chloride, l-lysine monohydrochloride, choline chloride, zinc sulfate, zinc proteinate, vitamin E supplement, ferrous sulfate, dl-methionine, added color (yellow 6, yellow 5, red 40, blue 2), manganese sulfate, manganese proteinate, niacin, vitamin A supplement, copper sulfate, copper proteinate, calcium pantothenate, garlic oil, pyridoxine hydrochloride, vitamin B12 supplement, thiamine mononitrate, vitamin D3 supplement, riboflavin supplement, calcium iodate, menadione sodium bisulfite complex (source of vitamin K activity), folic acid, biotin, sodium selenite
I would look at Blue buffalo, wellness ,taste of the wild, Stay away from science diet, Iams ,Purina they are all poor quality foods

My fiance raised 2 jack russels on Purina with occasional treats of cooked real meat, boiled rice and such. they are both perfectly healthy, vet checked, happy active guys) another jack russel II know was always fed Purina and died of old age, no active diseases or ongoing health problems were present.

But I will look into other food choices. What brand names of food would you recommend? Anything specific?

Thank you

Lots of dogs love egg - mine throws up but then he can't eat dairy or gluten either.

Whole egg, scrambled is good for pups I think. Hard boiled is good too. Nothing wrong with raw egg, shells and all, though I don't know if it's appropriate for young pups? Anyone? I can't think of an issue with it?

If food was not a factor our hospitals would not be full of people. Likewise out vets office. I have used Blue Buffalo for the last couple of year but it is fed in small quantities. I just change to this because it is a single source food and grain free.
PureVita - Pure and Natural Holistic Pet Food Dog Food and Cat Food
My dogs mostly eat home cooked food. This is a good source for checking ingredients
