As for potty training, I have a pen in the backyard that he goes in, or I walk him out on a leash to control where he goes. I have used diced chicken and chicken jerky, but not shredded chicken. He seems to really like the chewiness and texture of the chicken jerky the most. And yes! I definitely have Nature's Miracle at hand. I have not had his urine checked, but I do not think there is any medical issue. Just management mistakes, on my part, at times. I'm just wondering when he will ever find going inside to be uncomfortable and would much rather go inside. It just feels like he's just not getting it.

Thank you for your reply, crazy!
Ah washington! Do you have a hot water bottle with a cover it goes in handy? this tells me he could of been cold and wanted to cuddle up to you as your warm. Jessie during NZ winter(june) started whining nad barking and i told a friend and he said to try a hot water bottle well i tell you what did the trick she didnt whine or bark again! just something to think about. every night i filled kettle up and boiled the water then later pour it in hot water bottle and she snuggled close to it and fell asleep.

Also due to it being winter there he doesnt want to go out in the cold which is fair enough as i wouldnt want to either would you? best thing to do right now is put him on a lead to go toilet that way if he refuses to go outside you can pick him up walk outside close the door and tell him to go. this method worked with jessie and i had treats in my hand or dressing gown pockets with lots of praise!

Glad you got natures miracle! if the barking resumes fill a hot water bottle for him and find a snuggly cheap blanket to cover him with so it stays hot longer

We have a pomeranian in the family who was major difficulty potty-training; was still having 'accidents' well throughout the first year. My family was pretty stressed about it and sought advice on it from breeders and at dog shows, only to discover that a lot of SHOW poms in the Vancouver area are not fully potty-trained either-- they wear diapers!!!

We were up against a brick wall with it until my mom discovered the 'doorbell trick' in some random dog magazine. It basically entails training your dog to ring a bell (tied to the doorknob) on command, then training him to ring it when he needs to go outside.

And within a week or so... POOF, the potty problems just vanished! I doubt the problem is your dog's knowledge of what to do when he has to pee. He is simply a little dog with a little-dog bladder who is having a hard time communicating to you that he needs to go. Throw him a bone and give him a way to ask to go outside that you can hear from any point in the house, and I bet he will meet you halfway.
