Have you tried ignoring him and walking away when he does the behaviors you don't like? If you get excited when he does it, he will just think you are playing.
His growling probably just playing, but I agree, ignoring him may be the best thing. Puppies like doing things like that because they know it gets a reaction out of you, if you show him that it does not get your attention, and only makes you annoyed, he should stop. Just remember, when he gets older, he has to understand that you are the "alpha dog" in charge, or he will do that when he's big.
