    Males are 20-25 inches and 50-60 lbs. Mine is 22 inches and was 53 lbs the last time I weighed him. He was only 44 when I found him and could still stand to gain a few pounds.

    I have three beagles and they all seem to use their noses a lot more than Cinco does. I think (and this is just a theory) that because the short-eareds are bred for big game, they don't need their noses as much. Hogs and bears seem to be much more "pungent" than smaller game like raccoons and foxes, and they're also much easier to see and hear. So it makes sense to me that the hounds bred for big game would have less of a nose than hounds bred for small game. The short-eareds also tend to be stockier and more muscular than the long-eareds.

    wow! they do look very similar! i wonder sometimes about clover, what is the size range of a plott hound? oh, and he hasn't really been a big sniffer, but seems to be using his nose more and more????
