Smile Walking and Recall

HI

Thanks to everyone for their good advice on my problems with walking and recall with my puppy called Bella. Especially Tess!

Tess, I have taken your advice and followed your lead, I take Bella out every day but was not letting her off the lead as I had been having problems when meeting other dogs. My partner Paul and I went out for a walk and tried to find a nice quiet field where we could let her off for a while. We live near Spen valley greenway so I have been walking her on here previously but there are too many distractions. After about half an hour we took a path off the greenway and found a public footpath through some fields and then we let her run. She had a great time, it was lovely to see her enjoy herself so much! Three dogs came into the field and Bella went to say hello and behaved really well and when they went on there way she came with us nicely. We continued on through another couple of fields running around and playing ball and then when we went back onto the main path I let her stay off the lead as she had been really good. She had met half a dozen dogs and played and then come away. She stayed off the lead until we got near home and did brilliantly I thought so we are going up there every weekend. Unfortunately its dark on a night when we walk her at the moment so we cant go there every day at the moment but it wont be long and the more that we practice this the easier walking everywhere will be.

Bella does like to wander like you suggested well in front of us and investigate and was just keeping an eye on our location, your advice has just given me the confidence to give her a bit more slack and thats what made the difference I think together with the puppy obedience classes.

Anymore tips would be much appreciated!

Hey - that's fantastic news! Tess is brilliant - she's given so much great advice, and she's always someone who looks on the positive side of situations. I'm not really one in a position to give tips really as I'm a novice myself - however, I can say, keep up the good work
