Wink Re-introduce yourself!

I thought it might be nice to do a re-introduction for all of the new and old members! I see a lot of new (furry) faces! You don't have to give as much information as I am, just what you are comfortable sharing

Hi, I'm zoorun/Zoe and I'm a 23 year old living in the Kootenays in BC, with plans to move up to the Cariboo-Chilcotin. I have been working in Forestry for about 4 years and I am currently going to school to become a registered Forest Technician. My favourite thing about my job is I can bring my dog to work with me! I also love trees... :roll eyes:. I spend my extra time hiking, skiing, cross country skiing, climbing and snowshoeing.

I own an (almost) 6 year old German Shepherd mix named Remy. She is a rescue pup from a stray mother on a reservation back home. She is the love of my life and I don't know what I would do without her. We skijor, do rally obedience and I have dabbled in agility with her. She has literally saved my life from a moose before and she's never more than 20ft away from me!

My dad lives about 3 hours away with his 2 Border Collie mixes, Lucy and Tippy. I refer to them as "mine" as well. Tippy is a 15.5 year old BC/Spaniel and I have had him since I was 9 years old. He's completely deaf and senile, but he's still the biggest suck around. Lucy is a 2 year old ginger BC/Husky (we think) and a complete spitfire. She's got a sassy little attitude and is such a sweetheart, but also a little devil puppy! I have taken her to a dock diving competition, and she loved it.

Hi I'm Rain / Stacy, and live in Deep East Texas, originally from New Orleans. I enjoy hiking in the country, reading, crochet, and courtesy of one very hard to fit dog am relearning how to sew.

My dog is Zody, a very opinionated, 2 year old, Dachshund x Chihuahua. He's very smart but is fearful of people, he loves to explore outside where his goal seems to be to pee on the world. I've had him since last March and he was given to me by a friend who had raised him since he was a pup.

Zody

Hi, I'm Carol, aka Harleyboysmom! I'm (cough cough) years old enough to know better.

Currently Sam's Mom, I have a great passion for all animals, especially dogs.

I've had dogs since I was 5 years old, and have been active in obedience, sled dogging, and dog shows.

I worked for a Vet to pay for medical expenses for a kennel of 30+ dogs, and it was so worth learning and knowing my fur kids had the best of medical care.

I have made many great friends here on DOGFORUM, and look forward to meeting new friends.

Here is a picture of my Sam.

Hey. I'm Jen aka BustersMum. I'm 22 years old and I live in Scotland. I'm currently unemployed but I'm looking into starting my own Dog walking and Boarding business

I've loved dogs for as long as I can remember but allergies stopped me from getting a dog for years. When my mum and dad seperated my mum got a dog for company and after a while decided to rescue a second. Fortunately for me her resident dog didn't get on with him so I begged my dad to take him. He agreed and that's how Buster came into my life.

He was 11months old when he came to us, on terrible food, skinny due to malnutrition and needed some serious affection.

Now he's just turned 3, is in beautiful condition and is the biggest cuddle bug ever. We trick train most days, agility twice a week sometimes more and love nothing more than exploring through the Scottish countryside.

To say that he has changed my life is a massive understatement. Couldn't imagine what my life would be like without him.

So glad I found this forum, such a lovely group of people.

This is fun, especially since I never did an intro thread I, too, am glad I found this forum. The only other "forum" I was a member of was Yahoo Answers (I left after the changes as the new format is awful). The people are just so much better here. I didn't really realize until I jointed just how toxic Y!A was.

My name is MaKenna, I am 23 years old and from NE Kansas. I graduated last spring with a Bachelor's in speech pathology but decided I didn't want to pursue that field so am going back this semester to get a business degree.

I have several hobbies besides dogs. I love to hike - I hike around here (I live in the Flint Hills - I swear not all of KS is flat ) and my brother and father are both Eagle scouts who love the outdoors as well so every year for vacations we've been hiking in various parts of the country. We've also been to Canada several times, to British Columbia and Alberta, mainly to the more popular areas. It's absolutely gorgeous.

I also knit, kayak, play the Sims in addict-like bursts, read, write (a bit), and dabble in new things. I'm testing out the waters with quilting, I'm also trying to get into Yoga. I go out with my friends which I'm not sure counts as a hobby - it's a lot of fun even if I'm exhausted the next day. I live on a small ranch, so I work with cattle and my totally awesome chickens, and it seems like construction is an ongoing thing, so I've learned to do that. Oh - and I am just a bit of a gardener. Still learning, but I love it. I just really love to learn

Right now, I have three dogs: Chisum, my 8 month old Cocker Spaniel mix who is a true challenge but has taught me so much, even when I don't want to learn the lesson. I've also got a 4 year old Terrier mix named Sophie, and an 11 year old Australian Shepherd named Lexy. Both are awesome dogs; Lexy's always looking out for me.

Last year I lost two of my amazing dogs - my Sheltie, Sam, to kidney failure (he was my heart dog) and my Lab mix, Holly, to bone cancer/liver failure. They were hard losses.

And finally, some pictures!

My turn My turn!!!

Hi I'm boxerluv AKA Anna! I recently turned 20 and am currently living in GA with my two mutts(plus my parents two dogs). ooh fun fact about me I've had two ACL and a meniscus repair. Fun stuff lol...

Anywho Abby is my 9 almost 10(say wha?) lab mix. She's the first dog my family has ever owned and she is my heart dog. Karma is my approx 2 year old APBT mix. I found her as a stray who I fostered for 8 months and surprise surprise she was a foster turned foster failure(who didn't see that coming lol). There is also Bo my dad's 6 year old boxer and Twister my moms 2 year old mini/toy poodle thing...

Together with my girls I do agility, dock diving, disc dog, bikejoring, and we hike a lot. Other than dog related sports I played soccer since I was about 5 up until 2 years ago. May possibly try out for my college team, but still unsure about that. I also played and loved basketball, but once I hit highschool sadly dropped it. mmm guess that's kinda it...

I haven't been online much lately, but I'll post in this thread and reintroduce myself and Merlin. I've been on this forum for close to a year, and have had Merlin for a year.

I'm CadenceDiscordia. I go by Cadence, but you can also call me by my real first name (Diana). I live in the DFW area of Texas and love it. I'm currently a seminary student working toward my Masters of Art in Biblical Counseling. Right now, I'm not entirely sure what I want to do with my life, but I'm working on it. My life pretty much consists of studying and spending time with friends from church. I try to write when I can, but lately I have had some pretty massive writer's block.

Merlin is my one-year-old (actually 14ish months old) Boston terrier. He's my first dog (not counting family pets). It's been a learning experience for me, but a good learning experience. When I got Merlin I assumed I knew how much work it would be to have a puppy... boy I was wrong! At the time, I felt like I bit of WAY more than I could chew, but now I am so glad I got Merlin as a puppy. It has been such a rewarding experience, and there is no denying that Merlin loves me and is a happy puppy. Over the summer we did training classes at Petco. We completed Puppy 1 and Puppy 2, and I'm not sure whether I want to do the CGC test next or continuing in to the Adult 1&2 classes. I'd also love to dabble in some dog sports like agility, but I don't know if I have the time right now. I guess we'll see! Merlin has the sweetest disposition. He's enthusiastic about everything and has yet to meet a stranger (both human and dog). He's also extremely food motivated, which can be annoying at times, but can also be a good thing.

While I would love to say that I've was 100% positive reinforcement with Merlin, that isn't true, but I'm getting there. Since I have made more of an effort to focus on only positive reinforcement, I've noticed a huge difference in Merlin's attitude and he seems to be happier. Unfortunately, it's hard to stick to your guns when the majority of the world (at least my world) seems to think that punishment and aversive techniques are the way to go. But I've already had a number of people comment on how happy Merlin seems to be and how well his training seems to be going. I think that is a huge testament to the effectiveness of positive reinforcement.

Merlin and I have come a long way since I got him, and we still have a lot of work to do, but I'm loving the ride we're on.

Unfortunately, all of my pictures are on my phone/Instagram and I don't have any readily available to post from my computer. = /
