Nice to meet you!

Hello,
My name is Annette, we are a family of 6 humans and 2 dogs! One is a cocker spaniel poodle mix and almost 8, the other is a schnauzer poodle mix and almost 5 yrs old. We got the younger one as company for the other because after we had to put down our 14 yr old dog she showed signs of depression from the loss of her "sister"! It turned out that we all needed this little addition to help us over the loss!

We have two fish aquariums which the dogs like watching also. One of my son's friend came over and remarked on how he does not understand people keeping aquariums, he finds it so boring. My son told him that it relaxes people! So his friend sat down in the recliner chair in front of the tanks to watch the fish a while and an hour later my son asked him how he feels now that he'd spent an hour in front of the aquarium. His friend could not believe that so much time had passed!

I frequently visit fish forum sites and when Genny, my cocker spaniel poodle mix had this anal gland problem I wondered if there is a dog forum I could join.

The information on here is amazing and I hope to learn from you and share with all of you also!

Hi and welcome to the forum. I a newbie too. I have 5 dogs - 2 Dobies, 1 Shepherd, a poodle and a JRT! All are older except one of my Dobies. They keep me busy but in a good way! I have a friend that has 3 Schnauzer-poodle crosses - CUTE beyond words! One looks JUST like a Schnauzer and the other two look more like Poodles - they are all so friendly and full of energy! And, you are so right, aquariums ARE relaxing - that's why they have them in Nursing Homes and suggest them for people recovering from heart attacks and surgery! Hope you enjoy the forum!

Hello lovesalldogs! Thanks for the welcome and welcome to you as well!

You must have your hands full with your canine family! I was just trying to picture how you take them for a walk. Do you take them out all at the same time? Do you live in the country where they can run free or do you need to walk them on a leash?

In this short time I have been on this forum I have found so many interesting reads, I am finding it difficult to peel myself away from the computer to prepare dinner and doing dishes and such, lol!

Right now I am reading a thread about making your own dog food. I am already making dog food, but as a supplement to their dry food. I realized already that I will need to get some liver for them to add some to their diet also.

Hey again! Luckily we live WAY out in the country! My big dogs go out when I go out - I always want to keep an eye on them. I have 4 horses so I'm at the barn a lot during a day so they get plenty of outside time! The two little dogs are house dogs/couch potatoes - I let them outside for their potty walks but they want right back in. They both are 13! Our Shepherd and older Dobie are both 12 - then we have a 1 1/2 year old Doberman that keeps me on my toes! All are rescues except the Shepherd. He is one of my son's retired K-9 Partners! He is one exceptional dog and never leaves my side! I don't think I have EVER, in my whole life, been without a dog! I don't have a favorite breed - I love them all! My daughter just got a Golden-Cavadoodle (think that's right??), a cross between a Golden Retriever, KC Cavalier, and a Standard Poodle - a cute dog with LOTS of energy for sure! The forum is hard for me to pull myself away from, too! LOTS of interesting things to read! WOW - you make your own dog food? That's too awesome! I feed Taste of the Wild, Bison. All the dogs do well on it. I'm having some issue with my little Poodle lately - our Vet said allergies - he's been taking on again/off again meds - antibiotics, different allergy meds - now she has him on benedryl for maintenance but nothing has really made a big difference - he's itchy and licks himself all the time - his feet, his tummy, bites at his backside and he'll actually PLUCK his hair out around his hips and back legs! I've gone online and looked and came up with a possible systemic yeast infection (the skin on his tummy is BLACK!) - then it also said a possible thyroid issue. I'm perplexed - I'm taking him to another Vet and see if we can get to the bottom of it! He may certainly have allergies but that's not all that's going on and my Vet doesn't seem to be as worried as I am. Guess I'd better scoot - horses to feed and dinner to get ready - GAH! All I want to do is read some more! Great talking with you and thanks for my welcome, too!
