New from Texas

I'm new to forum. Me and family have 2 dogs (both mixed breeds) and 2 cats. Also several reptiles. Our Lab Collie mix Buddy has been trained to detect low blood sugars. He is very protective of my grand-daughter who is confined to a wheelchair. We never got him certified as a special needs or companion dog because he is too protective with her. He has to be put in a separate room when we have people he doesn't recognize. Our Jack mix is my friend. He too recognizes low blood sugars. Attachment 142602

My dog Gidget also has to be put in a separate room when we have visitors whom she does not recognize. The vet said to socialize her, but it doesn't work. She does not want to be socialized, so I either crate her in another room, or allow her to sit on my lap when strangers visit. She enjoys sitting on my lap and being present with visitors, but if on the floor she won't stop barking at them. I think she is protective.

He is there for her we have tried to socialize him. he just not going for it. I am afraid if someone would try to force themselves on him he would bite them. Not a people person and too big for a lap.
