New member: Owner of Zephyr, desert dog

hi all,
I'm a new member but I've read lots of helpful advice on here since getting my dog Zephyr.

We live in a remote part of Australia in the desert. There's plenty of other dogs about the community, but some a little wild and a few dingoes. We're hundreds of km's from any dog training places so I've been relying on YouTube and forums to help us out. Zeph is a mixture but definitely Kelpie, maybe Australian Cattle Dog and possibly a little dingo. He's super focussed which I'm hoping to channel somehow....but also quite stubborn (!)

He's about 2 and was very starving and skinny when rescued from a street life, scavenging in bins with other members of his family. He hates me to leave him and I'm working on his needy tendencies, but he's a lovely dog, has responded really well to training, and is great natured, even with kids.

Obsessive is the word for him some times, specifically he adores retrieving sticks and screwed up balls of paper. He's my best mate and a great little dog and I'm looking forward to learning some useful training tips from you all on this forum.

Cheers,

Welcome! I've lived in fairly remote places before with limited resources, but man! At least you've got the internet!

As you can see there are a lot of stickied posts with links to great videos and articles on this forum, and if you have any specific questions, ask away! I'm still finding amazing threads that have very solid recommendations all in one place, and are just little gems, like this block from a thread about a one year old unsocialised dog:

Not all of these will apply to you, but you get my drift.

Again, welcome!
