In the end, I didn't get a Jack russell...I got a Patterdale! Which I'm told is even more work ^_^ He's BEAUTIFUL!!!! Wanna meet him?
I call him paws, he's not a puppy though, he turns three in August, but his owners developed medical problems...a heart condition and stuff and they just couldn't devote the time and energy he needs, so he was free to a good home. They wanted him to go to the countryside, but when I rang them and told them that I don't exactly live in the countryside, but there's woods, and a huge park with a lake, and I'm an active home maker with the time and energy, they said that it sounds perfect, so we took him yesterday.
I think I've got the most energy though. He needs retraining again because obviously I may use different commands and I have a different accent to his previous owners, what with us being in different counties. But it's going well. he pulls a LOT and my fingers are killing me fron his lead, I'm contemplating dog walking gloves just to stop the rub, but he's learning. Everytime he pulls I say no and bring him back. He's also learning wait, whih is important because although we don't live in the city or on a very busy road, there is a main road between my close and the park, which happens to be a bus route, so wait is a very important thing.
I'm going to get a clicker and start clicker training him as soon as he starts eating properly. He doesn't eat from our hands and we put a mixture of dry food down and a couple of strips of fresh beef, han't touched his dry, just the beef, going to try adding gravy to his dry later. But he's very timid at times, a loud noise will have him scuttling to a corner, while the rest of the time he lays over my lap. He's just nervous because everything's new though. I'm sure after a day or two he'll be fine. He' getting a lot of love and support. And he's meeting a lot of new things, loves other dogs, not too sure about frogs...they jump at his nose...
P.S. Trying to add him to my dogs, but there isn't a Patterdale terrier on the drop down list, nor either of the alternate names...old english terrier or fell terrier, do they have another breed name? What should I class him as?
